The Sydney Smith Archive

Founded for the centenary of Smith’s death in 1989, the Sydney Smith Archive in London houses Smith’s sheet music, in addition to several thousand pieces by other lost Victorian composers.

The Archive was founded by Brian Rees and Robert Wilson, two enthusiasts of Victorian piano music and Victorian song, who collected the scores and piano rolls. Somewhat later, Frazer Jarvis, who had been trying to amass a collection of the scores, joined them in the project to scan the music, and created this webpage.

We have a sister site, run by Jeffrey A. Stead, containing Jeffrey’s own MP3 files of Smith’s music.

Should anyone have any additional information about Sydney Smith, we would be very pleased to hear from them.
